Commemorate the 250th anniversary of America's fight for independence with Poetry in the Garden's 2026 season, "Voices of the New Revolution." Each Monday this July, nationally acclaimed poets will share works that stand defiant of oppression and injustice, opting instead for empowerment, creativity, and empathy.

Limited to just 25 attendees, this 90-minute afternoon workshop, led by Richard Blanco, the nation's fifth Presidential Inaugural Poet, will include a thematic overview, a reading of poems that illustrate the theme, and a brief generative exercise with the opportunity to share one's work. Workshops are open to writers of all experience levels and genres. 

From Richard Blanco: "In these times of social and political upheaval, poetry can help us name and navigate our unrest, frustration, and anger—and help us reground ourselves (and others) in agency and hope. It offers a poetic light at the end of the proverbial tunnel. We’ll read exemplary poems of protest, both historical and contemporary, and explore the craft and various strategies they employ to turn outrage into art. With this in mind, participant will jump-start their own poems of protest through a fever writing session."
